New Case Studies Of Best Practice In 'Green Tourism'
|

From airlines and cruise lines to hotel resorts and campsites – WTTC’s ‘green’ case studies cover all sectors of the global Travel & Tourism industry
Coinciding with the launch of the Call for Entries for the 2010 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has published a comprehensive list of mini case studies of previous winners and finalists – available for complimentary download.
Both the industry and the travelling public can now read the detailed comments of the Panel of Judges regarding each of the Tourism for Tomorrow winners and finalists over the past few years, learning more about their achievements that highlight ways of achieving best practice in sustainable tourism development.
Thanks to WTTC’s commitment to sharing examples of best practice in ‘green business’, the library of case studies will be expanded annually as the new Awards are announced.

Grupo PUNTACANA, Dominican Republic - Winner, Destination Stewardship Award 2009
Judges’ Verdict:
This group of companies, comprising the Puntacana Resort & Club, the Punta Cana International Airport, and the Puntacana Ecological Foundation, has been instrumental in building a network of tourism infrastructure in an impoverished region of the Dominican Republic. Grupo PUNTACANA not only offers employment opportunities for the local population, but also provides health and education services, transport infrastructure, and fundamental conservation activities. Grupo PUNTACANA demonstrates a leading example of private sector destination stewardship at the local level. www.puntacana.com
“The WTTC award has been a validation of what we have been doing since our inception forty years ago, proving that environmental protection and responsible community development should be inherent to any long term efforts in tourism.” Jake Kheel, Environmental Director at Grupo PUNTACANA states. “The Tourism for Tomorrow Award has attracted attention for us in the Caribbean region and provided incentives for other companies to act more responsibly.”
